The Butler County Sheriff’s Department received a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Division for participation in the You Drink & Drive. You Lose. campaign to stop people from driving impaired. Enforcement efforts will be increased March 12-14 and will focus on reducing deaths and serious injuries caused by impaired drivers.

Methamphetamine Use In Butler County
Butler County ranks in the top 20 counties in Missouri for Methamphetamine related problems and Missouri ranks 1st in the nation for Meth problems. These statistics are supplied by the Missouri State Highway Patrol through information sent in by each county.
SIGNS OF A METH LAB DUMP SITE -
Lab dump sites can be found in the woods, at a residence, or in a dumpster. There isn't a single item to look for if you suspect a lab dump site, but a combination of items. The most common item to look for is an aerosol can with holes punched in the bottom of them along with a gallon of Coleman Fuel. You could also find a plastic soda bottle that may have a strange liquid in it and a plastic hose coming out of the bottle. You may also find batteries that have been torn apart, and/or empty boxes of a medication that contains pseudoephedrine.
If you suspect that you have located a lab dump site, do not disturb the site and call authorities. A trained individual needs to be the one to check out the site. The chemicals used to make Meth are toxic and can be harmful if inhaled or touched.
SIGNS OF A PERSON USING METH -
Signs of a Meth user should be detected by close family or friends of the individual. If a person is a heavy Meth user even someone who doesn't know the person well will know that something is wrong with the person in question.
One of the signs that you will notice are that a person has trouble being still and can't sit or stand without pacing or fiddling with objects. When the person is standing or sitting still they may flex their jaw muscles as they are clenching their teeth. You may also notice that the pupils in their eyes are as small as the end of a ball point pen.
If a person is a heavy user they may have needle track marks on their arms or in the webbing of their fingers, they may develop acne and/or sores that never seem to heal, and they can be unnaturally thin. They can also stay up for days and when they do sleep, they are difficult to wake up. Most heavy users are unable to hold down a steady job because they are constantly late or not showing up at all to work.
These signs don't necessarily indicate that this person is using Meth. These symptoms can also be signs of other drug usage. If you suspect someone of being a drug user try to encourage them to seek help. Take that first step in trying to make a difference in their life that they may not be able to take for their self.
